The South West ACT TravelWise group have been going back to the classroom and learning how social media and marketing techniques can be applied to help out with behaviour change campaigns. Alistair Gleave from Exeter based Gleave Media came along to the group meeting to explain principals of "Inbound Marketing" and showed how Twitter, Facebook, Linked In, Flickr and YouTube can be exploited to interact and engage with our target audience. Exeter University then made the computer lab available for a practical session. Bristol and Somerset have already been making good use of social media; see www.facebook.com/betterbybike and www.facebook.com/cyclingsomerset.

The training will prove invaluable for the South West Authorities who were successful with tranche 1 LSTF bids. Devon County Council, Plymouth City Council, the West of England partnership and Swindon Borough Council have all received monies to deliver their projects, which range from workplace engagement, smart ticketing, personalised travel planning and key commuter routes. Many of the other authorities are preparing their bids for tranche 2 submission, so a busy winter is ahead!
